What is FAT testing?

FAT testing, short for Fixed Appliance Testing, is a systematic process designed to keep your hardwired electrical items in top form and primed for action. FAT Testing FAQs
Is FAT testing a legal requirement?

The law requires an employer to keep their electrical equipment well-maintained to avoid any electrifying incidents or accidents. Conveniently, the best way to do this happens to be through FAT testing.

What kind of equipment needs to be FAT tested?

Any electrical items that are hardwired into your electrical system need to be FAT tested. This includes air conditioning units, heating units, built-in ovens, mounted wall heaters, security systems, and hand driers.

How often should FAT testing be carried out?

Generally every 12 months, but, how long is a piece of string? The truth is, how often you carry out FAT testing will vary depending on the equipment you are testing. We advise a risk-based approach that considers the type of equipment you have and what it is being used for.

No law requires you to record your FAT test results; however, record-keeping is essential to any great health and safety culture. For this reason, we’ve got your back with our secure, digitised Document Portal.
